Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is an ND vs. an MD?

ND's are naturopathic doctors and MD's are medical doctors. Although the investigation and clinical work up may be similar among professions, treatments are very different. ND's focus on natural treatments and are not covered by OHIP (in Ontario).

03

Do you treat children?

Although I love kids, my practice aims to treat adults. I do also enjoy seeing adolescents, pre-teens and seniors but if you are looking for treatment for an infant or toddler send me an email and I can recommend an ND for you.

05

What formal training do licensed naturopathic doctors have?

ND's have a minimum of 7 years of post-secondary education. This usually involves an undergraduate degree in pre-medical sciences followed by enrolment in a four year, full-time accredited naturopathic medical program. To obtain a license, ND's complete a series of board exams after graduation and later complete continuing education courses.

02

How does payment work?

In Ontario, ND's are not covered by the provincial healthcare system (OHIP). Visits are usually covered by most extended insurance benefit plans- some may even be completely covered.

04

Can a naturopath write prescriptions?

In Ontario, naturopathic doctors can pursue further training in order to receive their prescribing license. They have access to certain bio-identical hormones, desiccated thyroid, and more.

06

Are all ND visits held in-person?

Although in-person visits allow naturopaths to conduct physical exams and connect with our patients better, they are not mandatory. I offer virtual (video or phone) and in-person appointments.
